Columbo

welcome back friends and neighbors to an all-new wittygeeks blog 2022 style.

starting with columbo. first i have to preface that this is a show from 1968 not that that changes any laws or application of law. to be honest about 2 weeks ago i could have told you i had heard the name before but had no idea what it was about. *beware potential spoiler alerts* i have watched about 5 episodes now and some things really stand out. and before anyone gets on my case, i know its a tv show but some realism would be appreciated.

since when is it okay for a cop to let himself into someone's home and randomly begin looking around and poking in drawers etc? have we not heard of a warrant? uh, mind you, the constitution and right to search and seizure has been around oh since 1776.

or how is it that columbo always manages to know who is the guilty party or is always in the 'right place, at the right time?' pretty convenient.

has anyone else noticed that columbo is actually not very bright and just accidentally stumbles on the right path or the right questions and up until 1 episode, does not do anything that could be considered police investigation or work?

i enjoy the show and am just always surprised when columbo does something that contradicts all aspects of applicable law. one particular episode, he literally harassed a woman he a.. followed and b. questioned without a lawyer and then when she insisted multiple times, continued to badger her and ask questions. hello, once a lawyer is requested questioning stops. this lady pretty much broke down, no lawyer present. uh, problem, your case would be thrown out and you as a cop would most likely be regulated to a desk or fired. can we say liability?
